Leah (center) and other NYU students spend the day at a South African village (Mamelodi) teaching games and songs to AIDS orphans. The kids pictured here all live in a one-room shack with 4 adults (mostly aunts and uncles) and don't have the money to attend school. The SOS Children's Villages are flooded with children like this and are unable to accommodate the growing need in South Africa.
About Leah Goodman
Leah Goodman is a NYC-based photographer. She has recently received a people's choice photography award from the NYU Steinhardt School of Education and had her work displayed at NYU's Kimmel Center for Student Life. Her work has also been exhibited at the Sewall-Belmont House and the Politics and Prose Coffeehouse in Washington DC as well as the Phoenix Gallery in NYC as part of an effort to raise money and awareness for the Girls Gotta Run Foundation. When not in NYC, Leah spends as much time as possible traveling the world. Through her photography, she hopes to raise the level of awareness and appreciation of different cultures. She also strives to capture the physical beauty that surrounds us. With the world changing so rapidly, from globalization to global warming, it is critical that we take the time to appreciate our world as it is now.
